There are a few basic grips used by tennis instructors when they begin teaching the game of tennis:
- Eastern Grip
- Western Grip
- Continental Grip
- Forehand
- Backhand
- Serve
First, the forehand requires that a right handed player bring the racquet from the right side of his body and strike the ball then follow through with the racquet towards the left side of his body. Second, the backhand requires a right handed player bring the racquet from the left side of his body and strike the ball then follow through with the racquet towards the right side of his body. Finally, the serve which starts the game is where a player tosses the ball up in the air and strikes it near it's peak to the inside of the opposite box of the opponent's side of the net without touching the net.
